When Savannah Chorney was eight years old, her aunt was struck by a truck and sustained a catastrophic traumatic brain injury. The family still manages her care today. That experience drew Savannah toward plaintiff personal injury law and gave her a firsthand understanding of what families face after a serious accident: the confusion, the insurance paperwork, the feeling that no one on the other side is listening.
Melissa Sidhu came to injury law from a different direction but arrived at the same place. She grew up in a family where several close relatives lived with life-altering disabilities. She watched them work to get through each day and watched her family push through the obstacles that came with physical and cognitive limitations. She understood from an early age that some people need more support than others, and that the systems meant to help them do not always work the way they should.
Early in her career, two cases made the work personal. The first involved a child who had sustained a traumatic brain injury. Working alongside his parents, seeing the toll on them, and watching the gains he made once proper treatment and support were in place showed Melissa what this work could actually do. The second was a catastrophic injury file where she helped secure court approval of a settlement for the injured person's family. She watched that family walk out of the courtroom with the financial stability they needed and a kind of peace that had not existed before. Those two experiences removed any doubt about where she belonged.
Savannah and Melissa Sidhu have practised together for more than a decade at plaintiff firms in Brampton. Melissa came to Ontario after earning a combined Civil Law and Common Law degree from McGill University in Montreal, and the two of them built cases side by side for years: same approach, same standards, same frustration with how injured people were being handled elsewhere.
